15 октября в вышеупомянутом издании была опубликована статья Люка Хардинга «Anti- Putin campaigners urge Downing Street to bar Russian singers from UK»: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/15/anti-putin-campaigners-downing-street-russian-singers-valeriya-iosif-kobzon, изобилующая недостоверными, попросту говоря, лживыми фактами. Естественно, я не могла оставить без внимания провокационные выпады мистера Хардинга и обратилась в редакцию газеты с просьбой опубликовать мой ответ на эту статью. 17 октября я направила письмо на общий адрес издательства: guardian.letters@theguardian.com, а также лично господину Крису Элиоту (Chris Elliott — Guardian readers’ editor), но никакого ответа до сих пор, спустя три недели, не получила. О публикации моего письма в газете нет и речи.
Я крайне удивлена и расстроена тем, что в демократическом обществе такое крупное издание, как Гардиан, работает исключительно в одностороннем порядке. Оно опубликовывает лишь то, что считает нужным, даже если это откровенная ложь. Я ждала долго и терпеливо, когда издательство опубликует мое письмо или хотя бы потрудится ответить на него. Возможно, у них просто не хватает совести или профессиональной журналистской этики опубликовать ответ человека, которого они оболгали, а посему я делаю это за них — самостоятельно в открытом доступе размещаю письмо.
Оно написано по-английски (оригинал прилагается). Ниже привожу некоторые тезисы на русском языке:
Гардиан называет меня «Голосом Кремля». Я — артист, голос России, я служу своему народу и, если Гардиан не видит разницы между Кремлем и Россией, в таком случае, отвечу, что я горжусь этим званием. Я поддерживаю действия Президента Путина, направленные на восстановление мира на Украине и утраченной гармонии между Россией, Европой и Америкой.
Гардиан обвиняет меня в том, что я подписала письмо в поддержку воссоединения Крыма с Россией. В этом письме не было ни одного слова о военном вторжении в Крым или на Украину, ни одного слова о насильственном присоединении Крыма. Кроме меня это письмо подписали еще пятьсот знаменитейших и авторитетнейших российских артистов, режиссеров, актеров и писателей.
Уважаемые господа журналисты, объясните мне, пожалуйста, как мое присутствие в Великобритании как певицы и артистки, может прямо или косвенно поддерживать «войну» на Украине? Именно об этом заявляет господин Сидельников (цитата его приведена в статье)
Я артист, уважающий свой народ и своего Президента, имеющий свое мнение, перестаньте втягивать меня в ваши политические игры, в которые я не играю — вот что мне хотелось, чтобы журналисты Гардиан услышали и опубликовали, если бы у них хватило смелости.
Оригинал письма, отправленного мной в The Guardian 17 октября 2014 года в ответ на статью господина Хардинга:
Dear Madam or Sir,
The Guardian published on Wednesday, 15 October, 2014 the following article " Anti- Putin campaigners urge Downing Street to bar Russian singers from UK«. That article was written by Luke Harding about me.
I have found many discrepancies in the above-mentioned article, and I wrote my answer to it clarifying some crucial points described by Mr Harding.
I would sincerely appreciate if the Guardian publishes my answer ( please see the attached document) to that article. Mr Harding has exercised his rights of free speech so please allow me to exercise mine.
In case you find my answer to Mr Harding’s article is not appropriate for publication, I would be deeply grateful to you if you could explain me as to why. I strongly believe that I do have my rights to be heard by the Guardian’s readers, and I trust you agree with me on that.
I thank you very much for the time you have spent reading my letter and I hope to read my answer to Mr Harding’s article soon enough on the pages of your distinguished magazine.

Here is my answer to the article:
1.Vocal supporters
Since when, in the freedom loving country such as the Great Britain, a person expressing his or her honest opinion supporting people who exercised their rights for referendum is demonized?
Of course, I support Putin in the way that he is doing everything that is in his power to resolve the Ukrainian crises peacefully restoring the lost balance and harmony between Russia, Europe and America. In that way, I support Putin wholeheartedly and you can rightfully call me his supporter.
1. About sanctions
As far as I am concerned, Western sanctions, hopefully, and, correct me if I am mistaken, are not against Russian people, and I do not see any connection here since I represent Russian musical culture. Did the West impose sanctions on Russian artists as well, since when? The Guardian calls me «voice of Kremlin». I am a voice of Russia, I serve my people and if the Guardian does not separate Kremlin from Russia, then I’m proud to be called one- I do support my President in his every undertaking to restore peace in Ukraine.
The Guardian’s article is referring to the fact that I signed the letter supporting annexation of Crimea. I did sign that letter and I’m proud of it whether somebody likes it or not. However, that letter supported ONLY the rights of people of Crimea to exercise their freedom of choice and nothing else. In the letter I signed, there is not even one word of military invasion of Crimea or Ukraine at this point, not even one word of annexation of Crimea is written in that letter. If the Guardian would like to be on the same page with this reality, I would be happy to send a copy of the above-mentioned letter to the Editor’s Office. By the way, I am not the only one who signed that letter. Five hundred famous and reputable Russian artists, film directors, actors and writers signed that letter as well.
2.Anti-gay legislation
Let’s speak about the part of the article in which the Guardian is referring to some unknown to me fact that I allegedly supported the anti-gay legislation. First of all, I’ve never ever supported any anti-gay legislation. In fact, what I have supported is the rights of children to choose without being indoctrinated. I am referring to the legislation prohibiting gay propaganda among children. It means, and I stress it, that children must decide for themselves as to whether they would like to be homosexuals or not. It is their rights to choose without any propaganda involved. Let’s go back to Pussy Riot story now. I denounced their acts. It was disgusting. They desecrated the Russian Orthodox church. They committed the criminal act. Please imagine the similar desecration happens in the UK or America at this point. What do you think would happen with those committing such atrocity?
However, I have never supported any harsh punishment for those immature hooligans who shamefully called themselves artists. Would you be so kind to point out any proof of me supporting the decision to inflict harsh jail sentence on those girls.
3.Sidelnikov’s slander
The Guardian also stated in its article that I was banned from entering Latvia. Let us go back to the beginning of this multiplied series of lies about me and my actions. I am a very popular in Ukraine in every city and village. Ukrainian people love me and I love them back. Unfortunately, somebody knew how popular I am among Ukrainian people and that somebody wanted to create an enemy of me in order to divert people’s attention from their real economic and political problems. Whoever decided to do such dirty trick, simply used me as a scapegoat for their own failures.
I am asking the Guardian as to how exactly my presence in the UK as an artist and a singer could possibly legitimate Russian alleged presence in Ukraine, and that is what is written in the Guardian’s article. Once again, I personally have relatives in Ukraine who never ever mentioned about any Russian soldiers on the Ukrainian soil. What I supported was the humanitarian convoy of two hundred eighty trucks loaded with food and medicine President Putin sent to Ukraine. What is wrong with that?
As for Mr. Sidelnikov saying in the Guardian’s article that I supported war in Ukraine I can only comment that my legal department is ready to take any actions necessary to protect me against Mr. Sidelnikov’s slander. There is not even one single word of truth in what he said about me.
I thank you and sincerely hope that my words would be published in order to clarify the confusions about the above-described issues and I trust the Guardian wholeheartedly in that respect.
